Orap connected on six of his seven threes in the opening 20 minutes, and the Warriors shot 8-of-15 from distance. However, the opening six minutes of the contest belonged to the Gyrenes. Jovan Grujicic exploded for ten of Ave's first 12 points, giving Ave an early 12-6 lead. Webber was in control for the remainder of the half, outscoring the Gyrenes 41-7.

The second half was played relatively evenly, with the Warriors only outscoring the Gyrenes 41-39. Ave Maria did not get closer than 21 points, outscoring Webber 23-16 in the first 9:40 of the second half before the Warriors pulled back away in the victory.

Grujicic was Ave Maria's leading scorer in the losing effort, scoring 18 points including his early surge. Two other Gyrenes were in double figures, including Josh Flowers and Nemanja Brankov, who pulled down ten rebounds to account for his first career double-double.

For Webber, Orap made eight total three-pointers to record a game-high 26 points. The only other Warrior in double figures was Jonathan Childs, who scored eleven points and pulled down nine rebounds.

Each of Ave Maria's next three games will be exhibitions, two of which will be against NCAA Division I competition. That stretch begins Monday night against Stetson, a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. Tipoff against the Hatters is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Deland.
