Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team defeated Webber 72-62 on Tuesday night to improve to 8-0 on the season. The win was Coach Bob Batson's 400th of his career when you include his high school and collegiate wins.

Ave Maria is also receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll that was released earlier this afternoon. The Lady Gyrenes look to continue their hot start to the season on Thursday when they travel to Keiser for a 5:30 p.m. tilt.

Sarah Miller led the way for AMU with a huge double-double of 26 points and 22 rebounds. She also had five steals and four blocks. Emily Acosta and Mallory Burton each tallied 10 points.

Ave Maria got off to a quick start, scoring the games' first seven points after three by Emily Acosta. Ave Maria led by as many as 11 in the opening quarter before Webber cut into their deficit and cut the AMU advantage to three just before the end of the quarter.

The Lady Gyrenes struggled to find their rhythm in in the final minutes of the first an five minutes of the second until Taylor Allen nailed back-to-back threes to give AMU a 26-25 lead. The teams went back and forth the remainder of the half with Webber taking the advantage into the break 33-31.

The Blue and Green continued to trail until 5:14 remaining in the third when Kandice Smith hit a three to break a 36-36 tie. A few minutes later, Amanda Kasprzak made a layup to give AMU the lead for good. The Lady Gyrenes held a three point lead after the third and pushed it to seven early in the fourth.

Webber wouldn't go away and cut the AMU lead to one midway through the fourth but AMU wouldn't relinquish the lead and eventually pushed it to double-figures with just over two minutes to play.
