FORT LAUDERDALE --- Greenan Sullivan and Josh Flowers combined for 48 points in the Gyrenes 84-58 loss to Simpson College in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday morning. The Gyrenes return to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. when they host Marian (Ind.).
 
Sullivan shot 10-of-12 from the field and 5-of-6 from three to finish with a game-high 25 points. Flowers was 7-of-14 from the field and made all eight of his attempts from the free throw line to cap his 23 point performance.
 
Stevan Krusevac added seven points and a team-best nine rebounds.
 
In an evenly matched-game, Simpson held a slight edge in shooting, finished 49 percent from the field compared to 46 percent by AMU. Simpson made two more threes and two more free throws.
 
Simpson came out firing and jumped out to a 19-10 lead 7.5 minutes into the game. Ave Maria kept the lead to single digits for most of the first half before two threes in the final minute turned a six point Simpson lead into a 46-34 Ave Maria deficit at the break.
 
Simpson pushed their lead to as large as 21 with eight minutes to play in the second before the Gyrenes started to rally. Six straight points by Flowers with just under two minutes left cut the deficit from 15 to nine. A few minutes later after a Sullivan layup, Flowers hit two more free throws to make it a seven point fame. Sullivan hit a three on their next possession to make it a six point game but AMU wouldn't be able to get any closer.
