BRUNSWICK, Ga. --- The Ave Maria softball team rebounded from a game one loss to split Thursday twin bill at Coastal Georgia. AMU dropped game one 5-2 before defeating the Mariners 10-5 in game two. AMU moves to 3-1 on the season.

In game one, Coastal Georgia scored in each of the first three innings to jump out to a 4-0 lead. AMU cut into the deficit with one run in the fifth and another run in the sixth. The Mariners tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-2.

Emily Blackmore scored the first run for the Lady Gyrenes on a Sadie Mosher RBI groundout. In the sixth, Blackmore again was part of the scoring, driving in Paige Aldred on a double to deep right field.

Blackmore finished game one 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Mosher finished 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and an RBI. Three other recorded a hit for AMU.

Mosher took the loss in game one, pitching six inning and allowing seven hits and five runs. Only three of the runs were earned. She walked two and struck out one in the outing.

Paige Alt got the win for Coastal pitching 5.1 innings and allowing two runs, one earned. She walked seven and struck out two. Olivia Husted pitched 1.2 innings in relief to earn the save. Five different Mariners scored in game one with Ceejay Hamm driving in a pair of them.

The Lady Gyrenes offense came alive early in game two, scoring five in the top of the second. After Coastal Georgia tallied three in the bottom of the third, AMU responded with three in the top of the fourth to retake a five-run lead. Two more runs in the top of the sixth made it 10-4 before the Mariners scored a run in the bottom of the seventh.

The first run of the game came on a throwing error by Coastal that allowed Deanna Stirtzinger to score. During the next at-bat, Miranda Dessecker singled to left-center to drive in Danielle Garcia. After two Lady Gyrenes reached base, Mosher reached on an error which allowed Dessecker and Meghan Sullivan to score. A double by Alyssa Colding later in the inning drove in Marinna Shadley to make it 5-0 AMU.

In the top of the fourth, a pair of bases-loaded walks brought in Colding and Genevieve Twigg before a bases-loaded wild pitch allowed Aldred to score. AMU added an insurance run in the top of the sixth when Mosher drove in Shadley with an RBI single. Later in the inning, Mosher would come around to score on a Coastal wild throw.

AMU registered 11 hits in game two led by Colding who went 4-for-5 at the plate. Mosher led AMU in game two with three RBI while Shadley crossed the plate twice for the Lady Gyrenes. Nine difference player scored for AMU and seven players picked up RBIs.

Gennifer Raulerson picked up the win for AMU pitching three innings. She allowed three runs, two earned, while striking out one. She allowed four hits and walked three. Brittney Pressler pitched the final four innings of the game for the Lady Gyrenes. She allowed eight hits but only two runs. She walked one and struck out two.

Dawn Stewart took the loss for Coastal, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing seven runs on seven hits and three walks. Only one of those runs was earned.

AMU returns to action on Friday night when they take on Point and Middle Georgia in Tampa as part of the NAIA Preview. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 5 p.m.
