Softball Goes 3-1 Over Weekend At NAIA Preview

TAMPA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria softball team improved to 7-3 on the season as they went 3-1 over four games on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. After falling to Cumberlands early Saturday, AMU responded with a win against Edward Waters and then two wins against Indiana Tech.
 
Ave Maria went 4-2 over the six games at the NAIA Preview.
 
Against Cumberlands, AMU fell behind 3-1 after three innings of play before tying it in the fourth on a McKayla Jeter RBI single and then an Paige Aldred score thanks to a Cumberlands error.
 
In the top of the sixth, Cumberlands took a 5-3 lead. The Lady Gyrenes rally attempt fell one-run short in the bottom of the sixth. The AMU run came via a Pookie Del Pino RBI single to right field.
 
In their second game Saturday, Ave Maria fell behind Edward Waters 2-0 after two but scored five runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 10-2 lead. After a three run top of the seventh for AMU, Edward Waters began to rally with six runs in the bottom half of the inning before the Lady Gyrenes were able to close out the game. Sadie Mosher and Rachel Curtiss both hit home runs in the game.
 
The night cap on Saturday featured a four runs in the bottom of the first for the Lady Gyrenes, two of the runs via an Aldred two-run homerun. The Blue and Green tallied another run in the third and four more in the fourth to take a 9-0 lead. Indiana Tech scored one run in the top of the fifth in the five inning game.
 
In Sunday's weekend finale, AMU scored a run in the second, three in the third, and another run in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead against Indiana Tech. Three more runs by the Lady Gyrenes in the sixth lead to an 8-0 five inning win for the AMU.
