GULF SHORES, Ala. --- The Ave Maria softball team fell to #16 Reinhardt, 4-3, and RV Brenau, 6-1, on Saturday in the Gulf Coast Invitational. The Lady Gyrenes move to 13-5 on season and will face Keiser on Sunday at noon.

Both games were close throughout. In game one against Reinhardt, AMU scored first in the top of the first inning on an error by Reinhardt that allowed Marinna Shadley to score. Reinhardt responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning and then scored two more in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.

In the sixth inning, Sadie Mosher hit a 2-run homerun to cut the deficit to one, 4-3.

Shadley finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Mosher and Kalie Romig had the only other hits in the game for AMU.

Mosher took the loss in the circle, pitching six innings and allowing nine hits, three walks, and four runs (two earned). She struck out six in the outing.

Against Brenau in the nightcap, the Tigers jumped out first with a homerun in the top of the first to make it 1-0. An RBI double by Brenau made it 2-0 after three before an error allowed the Lady Gyrenes to get their first run in the bottom of the fourth. It would remain a 2-1 game until the top of the seventh when Brenau would score four to put the game out of reach.

Shadley picked up the only hit on the night for AMU and scored the team's only run.

Brittney Pressler pitched all seven innings for AMU and allowed six run (two earned) on seven hits and four walks. She struck out three on the night. Brenau's Kathleen Danial improved to 14-1 after allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk. She struck out 15.
