Top-Ranked SCAD Edges AMU, 17-10

SAVANNAH, Ga. --- The seventh-ranked Ave Maria women's lacrosse team fell to top-ranked SCAD-Savannah, 17-10, on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Gyrenes drop to 7-6 on the season while SCAD improves to 11-1.
 
SCAD jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before a three-goal spurt for the Lady Gyrenes cut the deficit to one. Mackenzie Tourville, Georgia Miller, and Stephanie Hilker each scored for AMU in the run. Abby Castro assisted on the Hilker goal with 10:11 to play in the first. SCAD ended the half on a four goal run to take a 8-3 lead into the half.
 
The Bees continued their run to begin the second with five more goals to extend their advantage to 10, 13-3. Ave Maria wouldn't give in and scored six of the game's next seven goals to bring AMU within five. During the run, Tourville and Wade each found the back of the net twice and Miller netted her second goal of the game. Katelyn Sherman also scored for AMU. After back-to-back goals by SCAD, Tourville scored her fourth goal of the game.
 
Tourville led AMU with four goals on seven shots. She was four-for-five on free position shots. Wade and Miller each had two goals. Wade led the Lady Gyrenes with four draw controls. Danielle Tarantino had a team-high four ground balls.
 
Bianca Ballarin took the loss in net for AMU. She made 10 saves and allowed 17 goals.
 
AMU will take on Tampa in an exhibition on Tuesday to conclude their regular season. The Lady Gyrenes will find out their postseason fate on Sunday night when the NAIA release the 8-team field.
