Softball Completes Sweep Of Webber With Two Wins On Saturday

BABSON PARK, Fla. --- The Ave Maria softball team improved to 26-10 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Webber International on Saturday to take the three-game series 3-0. 
 
In game one, the Lady Gyrenes jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Webber closed the gap with a six-run fifth inning. Both teams scored a run in the seventh to make the final 9-7. AMU out-hit Webber 15-8.
 
The Lady Gyrenes took advantage of an error by Webber in the first to plate two runs. In the second Danielle Garcia hit a solo homerun before a RBI double by Sadie Mosher. Marinna Shadley would score later in the inning on a wild pitch and Colding hit a sac fly to complete the four-run second. Shadley and Mosher hit back-to-back homeruns for AMU in the fourth to make it 8-0.
 
Paige Aldred hit the fourth homerun of game one for AMU in the seventh to give AMU a three-run lead, 9-6.
 
The top three in the Lady Gyrene lineup, Kalie Romig, Shadley, and Mosher, each recorded three hits and went a combined 9-for-14 in game one. Deanna Stirtzinger and Aldred also collected multiple hits. Shadley and Mosher each scored three runs.
 
Mosher picked up the win in game one. She pitched 4.2 innings before Brittney Pressley came in to pitch the final 2.1 innings to earn the save.
 
In game two, both teams scored a run in the first inning. In the fifth, AMU plated three runs while Webber scored two in the bottom half of the inning which ended up being the difference, 4-3.
 
Colding drove in the first run in game one on a RBI single to right center. In the fifth, Mosher blasted a three-run homerun to put AMU in front 4-1.
 
Pressley picked up the win in game two, pitching seven innings and allowing four hits and three runs (two earned). She struck out three in game two.
 
AMU returns home next week for four crucial game against Southeastern. The two teams will play two doubleheaders on Wednesday and Thursday. The first three games of the series will be conference games. Start times for both days will be 1 p.m.
