Warner Edges Lady Gyrenes In Walk-Off Fashion

Sun Conference Tournament Headquarters

CLERMONT, Fla. ---
The Ave Maria softball team was handed their first loss of the double-elimination Sun Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon as the top-seeded Warner Royals edged the Lady Gyrenes 2-1. Warner hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to spoil the Lady Gyrenes' upset bid.

Similar to AMU's first game of the day, it was a Deanna Stirtzinger RBI hit that plated the first Ave Maria run. Stirtzinger singled down the left field line to allow Kalie Romig to score.

The Lady Gyrenes would maintain the one-run advantage until the bottom of the seventh when Warner scored on a single to right field to tie the game. In the seventh, Warner's Davis, hit a RBI single down the right field line to drive in the winning run.

Danielle Garcia was 2-for-3 on the day for AMU while Stirtzinger and Mosher collected the only other two hits for the Lady Gyrenes.

Mosher, who picked up the win in AMU's first game of the day, was again in the circle for the Lady Gyrenes. She pitched the entire game for AMU, allowing eight hits and two walks. She struck out six. Both runs were unearned.

Ave Maria will take on the winner of tomorrow's first elimination game between USCB and Southeastern. AMU's game will begin at 3 p.m.
