PIKEVILLE, Ky. --- The Ave Maria football team fell on the road to Pikeville on Friday night, 31-7, in a game that was originally postponed due to Hurricane Irma. The Gyrenes drop to 1-2 on the season.

Pikeville got the scoring started with a field goal on their opening drive. After the rest of the first quarter went scoreless, Pikeville scored on a 49-yard touchdown pass and catch and a six-yard touchdown run to take a 17-0 lead into the half.

Pikeville used a 35-yard fumble recovery and return and a 36-yard touchdown pass to extend their lead to 31-0. Ave Maria got on the board early in the fourth quarter on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Will Tate to Brian Byrd.

The Gyrenes finished with 238 yards of total offense while holding Pikeville to 200 yards. The Gyrenes turned the ball over five times (three fumbles and two interceptions) while forcing two turnovers (one fumble and one interception).

Will Tate finished with 88 passing yards on 5-of-11 passing with one touchdown and one interception. He also ran for 16 yards on eight attempts. Randy Schroeder completed 8-of-21 attempts for 50 yards and an interception.Â

Will Ulmer rushed for a game-high 59 yards on 14 attempts. Anthony Llosa caught three passes for a team-best 47 yards. Byrd had on catch for 30 yards and a touchdown.

Savaohn Hunt had five total tackles while four others collected four tackles each.

Ave Maria returns to action next weekend when they host Edward Waters at noon.
