NORTH MIAMI, Fla. --- In their first conference match of the season, the Ave Maria volleyball team traveled to North Miami to take on Johnson and Wales. The Lady Gyrenes defeated the Bobcats 3-1.

Ave Maria jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-18 opening set win. After the Wildcats won the second set, 25-20, the Lady Gyrenes regained the lead in the third, taking the set 25-22. The Lady Gyrenes grew progressively stronger as the match went along. They won the final and deciding set by double digit points, 25-14.

Savannah Stanton led AMU with 10 kills. Natalie Rosinski finished with eight kills while Erica Chenard and Bre Holder each tallied seven kills. AMU hit at a .346 clip on the afternoon, making just 18 errors compared to 46 kills in four sets.

Lauren Ruby had 35 assists for AMU while Daniela Jaramillo recorded a team-best 10 digs.

The women's volleyball team has a busy upcoming week as they travel to Florida National on Monday then have two tough conference matches against St. Thomas and Southeastern on Wednesday and Friday, away and home respectively. Â
