Men’s Basketball Falls At Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's basketball team fell at Warner on Saturday 93-53. The Gyrenes move to 3-19 on the season and to 1-10 in Sun Conference play.
 
Jonathan Simmons led the Gyrenes with 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting including 4-of-8 from three. Lucas Uzdaviniz and Greenan Sullivan also finished in double-figures with 11 points and 10 points, respectively.
 
As a team, AMU shot 39 percent from the field and were 8-of-28 from three. AMU was outrebounded 31-20 and took only seven free throw attempts, making five.
 
Warner had four starters finish in double-figures led by Khalil Ozuna each with 18 points. The Royals shot 61 percent from the field and made nine threes.
 
The Royals made eight of their first 11 shots of the game, including three from behind the arc to jump out to a 19-4 lead. Warner maintain their double-digit lead for the remainder of the half and took their largest lead of the game into the break at 47-21.
 
Ave Maria started slowly in the second half as well as Warner stretched their lead to 67-26 with 11:53 to play. The Gyrenes weren't able to cut into the Royal lead over the final 10 minutes, eventually falling to Warner 93-53.
 
The Blue and Green stay on the road for their next game, at Johnson & Wales on Thursday, before returning to Tom Golisano Field House to take on Keiser next Saturday.
