TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team extended their win streak to three games with a win at Florida College on Tuesday night, 69-47. The Lady Gyrenes improve to 15-5 on the season as they get set to return to conference play on Thursday night at Johnson & Wales.

Eleven different Lady Gyrenes got in the scoring column led by Emily Acosta, Sarah Miller, Lauren Gillingham, and Katie Houbolt who each tallied double-digit points. Acosta finished with 12 points while Miller added 11 points and eight rebounds. Gillingham and Houbolt each had 10 points. Gillingham also added six rebounds and five assists.

Ave Maria shot 36.9 percent from the field and were 6-of-18 from three compared to 30.8 percent by Florida College. AMU held a big edge in rebounding, holding a 43-28 advantage on the boards.

The Lady Gyrenes got out to a quick lead with threes by Gillingham and Acosta and a put-back layup by Miller to put AMU in front 8-0 just over three minutes into the game. A few minutes later, Houbolt hit a three to extend the lead to 11.

In the second quarter, after Florida College cut the AMU lead to five, the Blue and Green went on a 14-0 run capped by another three by Houbolt to take a 29-15 advantage. Ave Maria took a 34-19 lead in to the half.

Early in the third, Acosta and Mallory Burton forced Florida College into a few turnovers near mid-court that led to a couple fast-break points and sparked a 12-0 Lady Gyrene run. Ave Maria led by as many as 32 in the third quarter and led 58-32 heading to the fourth.

Ave Maria was able to hit their free throws in the fourth quarter and got a big three by Georgia Slay as the shot clock was winding down to maintain their lead. Never trailing in the game, AMU went on to win 69-47.
