AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's basketball team hit a school record 19 threes but it wasn't enough as the 19th-ranked Keiser Seahawks topped the Gyrenes 92-77 on Saturday afternoon.

The previous record for an AMU men's basketball team was 18 against Sterling on Dec. 17, 2016. Ave Maria hit 17 threes earlier this season in a win at Florida memorial. The 36 threes attempted by AMU against Keiser is also a school record.

The Gyrenes shot 46 percent from the field on the night and 53 percent from three. Ave Maria was 19-of-36 from behind the arc on the afternoon.

Jonathan Simmons led the way for AMU with 26 points. He was seven-of-nine from three. Gianpaolo Riccio added on 20 points and nine rebounds. Riccio made five threes while Lucas Uzdavinis, Greenan Sullivan, and Jovan Grujicic each tallied multiple threes in route to the school record for makes.

Keiser's Deion McClenton scored a game-high 28 points and 10 rebounds for the Seahawks. Trystan Pratapas added 23 for Keiser while Andrija Sarenac had 15 points and nine assists.

Keiser made 12 threes on the night and shot 55 percent from the field.

Ave Maria and Keiser exchanged threes in the opening minutes of the game with a three by Uzdavinis hitting a triple to tie the game at 11 at the 15:02 mark. A 17-2 run by the Seahawks gave Keiser a 28-13 edge midway through the half. AMU kept the game within reach for the remainder of the half and trailed 42-30 at the break.

The Gyrenes pulled to within nine a couple times early in the second before a 21-4 run by the Seahawks broke the game open. Ave Maria continued to hit threes to keep within reach but Keiser was able to prevent any rally by the Blue and Green, eventually winning 92-77.

Ave Maria begins a three game road stretch next Saturday when they take on Southeastern at 7 p.m.
