Lady Gyrenes Rout Trinity On The Road

TRINITY, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball outscored Trinity 22-5 in the opening quarter and never looked back in a 76-47 rout of the Tigers on Wednesday night. AMU improves to 18-5 on the season.
 
The Lady Gyrenes return to conference play on Saturday when they travel to Lakeland to take on conference leading and second-ranked Southeastern at 5 p.m.
 
Sarah Miller led the Lady Gyrenes with 15 points and 17 rebounds in just 19 minutes of play. Lauren Gillingham also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards in 22 minutes. She also had four assists.
 
Mallory Burton had 10 points while Syanne Rowe and Danielle Weinmann each had nine points. Megan Allen tallied eight on the night. In total, eight difference AMU players got in the scoring column.
 
Ave Maria shot 45.8 percent from the floor. They attempted only eight threes on the night. The Lady Gyrenes were 21-of-32 from the free throw line.
 
Leading 8-5 with 6:57 to play in the first, the Lady Gyrenes ended the quarter on a 14-0 run to take a 22-5 lead into the second. The AMU defense continued to stymie the Tigers until a field goal with 8:41 to play in the second ended the 8:16 run without a basket by Trinity. The Blue and Green ended the first half on a 13-0 run to take a 49-17 halftime lead.
 
Ave Maria continued to put pressure on Trinity to start the third and held their largest lead of the game at 34 with 4:35 to play in the quarter. The Lady Gyrenes went on to win 76-47.
 
Ave Maria outscored Trinity in the paint 42-16 and outrebounded the Tigers 55-25.
