KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team improved to 11-1 on the season with a 70-44 win at Johnson on Tuesday night. AMU returns to action on Thursday when they travel to third-ranked Southeastern.
Sarah Miller led the Gyrenes with 17 points and nine rebounds. Danielle Weinmann had 13 points while Syanne Rowe and Amanda Kasprzak each tallied 10 points.
The Gyrenes shot 44.6 percent from the field and were 2-of-12 from three. AMU was 10-of-17 from the free throw line. The Blue and Green held Johnson to 23 percent shooting and to 1-of-12 from three. AMU forced 13 turnovers.
Trailing 5-2 in the opening minutes, Ave Maria went on a 17-0 run to take a 19-5 lead. AMU led by nearly 20 for most of the first half and then extended that lead to 27 on a Sarah Miller jumper. AMU cruised the rest of the way en route to a 26 point win.
