AMU Baseball Swept At #21 St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- The Ave Maria baseball team fell in both games of Saturday's doubleheader at St. Thomas, 4-0 and 15-4. AMU moves to 5-12 on the season. They return to St. Thomas on Wednesday night for a non-conference game.
 
The Gyrenes struggled to get anything going in game one against the Bobcats. St. Thomas pitcher took a no-hitter into the ninth before a two-out single by Matt Wiles broke up the no-hit bid. St. Thomas scored one in the first, two in the seventh and one in the eighth in the 4-0 win.
 
Justin Bureau pitched well in the loss, allowing three earned on eight hits. He struck out eight.
 
In game two, the Blue and Green got on the board first with three runs n the second. Rico Soto started the scoring with a RBI triple to drive in Steven Valentine. Justin Hartshorne then singled to left to bring in Soto to make it 2-0. A Wiles single to center brought home Alex Perez for the Gyrenes' third run.
 
St. Thomas got in the score column with a run in the bottom half of the second and then took the lead n the third with five runs to make it 6-3 STU.
 
Ryan Keegan brought AMU to within two, 6-4, in the fifth on a RBI single to center to drive in Tully Allen.
 
The 21st-ranked Bobcats put the game out of reach with nine runs in the sixth innings. They went on to win game two 15-4.
 
Jake Davey took the loss for AMU. He went 2.2 innings and allowed five earned runs on seven hits.
