AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria baseball team fell to receiving votes Florida Memorial on Friday afternoon, 15-5, in game one of their three-game weekend series. The series will conclude tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
 
The Lions struck first with three runs on four hits in the top of the first inning. Ave Maria starter Sergio Miyares then settled down and allowed just two hits and one run over the next four innings.
 
The Gyrenes got on the board in the fifth on a two-RBI single by Ryan Keegan to drive in Tully Allen and Nick Wydler.
 
Florida Memorial tacked on two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to chase Miyares after six innings.
 
The Blue and Green had three cross the plate in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 7-5 game. The first run came on a Keegan sac fly to bring in Matt Wiles. Rico Soto then hit a RBI single to center to score Allen followed by a Brody Howe double to right center to score pinch runner Chris Wydler.
 
The Lions added two runs in the eighth and broke the game open in the ninth with six runs.
 
Keegan finished 3-for-4 with three RBI. Soto and Howe each reached base twice with a hit and a walk.
