M/W Tennis Picks Up Wins Against Penn State Berks

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ORLANDO, Fla. --- Ave Maria tennis defeated Penn State Berks on Monday night in their first matches up in Orlando over Spring Break. The men's team won 9-0 while the women's team picked up a 6-3 decision.
 
In doubles play for the men's team, Sebastian Ramirez and David Zuleta won 8-1 at one-doubles. Nicholas Hofmeister and Brandon Valley gave AMU its second point at two-doubles with a 8-2 victory. Cesar Menacho and Davin Danton completed the doubles sweep for the Gyrenes with a 8-4 win.
 
The Gyrenes completed the 9-0 sweep with a 6-0 effort in singles play. AMU didn't surrender a game in singles play, winning all matches 6-0, 6-0. Ramirez, Hofmeister, Hanton, Menacho, Valley and Jonathan Althoff each picked up singles wins.
 
On the women's side, AMU started the match against Penn State Berks down 2-0 and trailed 3-1 after doubles play. Amanda Grebosky and Averie Harkey won a one-doubles 9-7 for the Lady Gyrenes first point.
 
The Lady Gyrenes then swept singles play to come away with a  6-3 win. Grebosky won at one-singles 6-3, 6-1 followed by Camila Branstner with a win at two-singles 6-3, 6-4. Colleen Herrmann picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at three singles and Harkey won at four-singles 6-2, 6-1. Therese Sadusky got the final point for AMU with a 6-4 ,7-6 win in the five-singles spot.
 
Both teams have tomorrow off before taking on Roosevelt (Ill.) and Ursinus (Pa.) in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
