COLUMBIA, S.C. --- The Ave Maria women's lacrosse team came from behind to take down RV Columbia College on Friday. Ave Maria trailed 6-5 at the half and 7-6 with 5:26 to play before two late goals gave AMU the win.

Columbia scored first, netting two goals in the opening eight minutes. Katelyn Sherman found the back of the net with 20:18 to play in the first half to cut the deficit in half. That goal sparked a four goal run over a four minute span to give AMU a 4-2 edge. The other goals for AMU came from Richelle Harris, Sherman, and Nieve Macedo.

The Koalas responded to AMU's run with a four-goal spurt of their own to take a 6-4 lead. Just before the halftime horn sounded, Georgia Miller scored to make it a one-goal game at the half.

Stephanie Hilker tied the game early in the second half. Midway through the final stanza, Columbia scored to take a one-goal advantage. With 5:26 to play, Sherman found the back of the net to complete her hat-trick. Thirty seconds later, Aiyanah Simms scored to give AMU their first lead since 12 minutes remaining in the first half.

Both teams recorded 32 shots with AMU holding a 22-19 advantage in shots on goal. Columbia held a 27-21 lead on ground balls but AMU won the draw control battle, 9-8.

Sherman led five AMU goal-scorers with three goals in the win.

Andie Wagner picked up the win in net for Ave Maria. She made 12 saves to earn her the decision.
