AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria lacrosse team fell to Lourdes 17-10 on Friday afternoon. AMU fell behind 12-7 in the opening half and were unable to cut into the Gray Wolves lead in the final 30 minutes.

It was a back-and-forth game from the start with Lourdes scoring the first goal less than three minutes in. Aiyanah Simms got the scoring started for AMU with a goal at the 26:34 mark. After a Gray Wolves goal, Georgia Miller scored to tie the game at two eight minutes into the game.

Lourdes when went on a four goal run to take a 6-2 lead. Three of the next four goals went to AMU with Miller and Anneliese Sawick each tallying a goal. The third goal came on an own-goal by Lourdes to make it 7-5.

Lourdes scored five of the next seven goals to close the first half to take a 12-7 lead into the break. Simms and Isabella Pinsonsult tallied the goals for the Lady Gyrenes.

Sawick opened the second half with a goal for AMU to cut the deficit to four. After two straight goals for Lourdes, Miller netted back-to-back scores to make it 14-10 Lourdes. The Gray Wolves ended the game with three straight goals to make the final 17-10.

Lourdes held a 28-24 edge in shots on goal. Ave Maria collected nine more ground balls and won seven more draw controls on the afternoon.

Miller led AMU with four goals, four ground balls, and four draw controls. She also caused two turnovers. Sawick and Simms each tallied two goals. Sawick recorded a team-best six draw controls. Andie Wagner made 11 saves in the loss.

The Lady Gyrenes begin a busy three-game week on Monday against fourth-ranked Indiana Tech.
