LAKE WALES, Fla. --- The Ave Maria University volleyball team fell on the road to Warner University in three sets on Wednesday night. The Gyrenes fell 25-18, 25-5, 26-24 to the Royals to drop to 1-1 on Sun Conference play.

Warner hit .263 on the night compared to .029 by the Gyrenes. AMU played a clean first set with only two attack errors but couldn't withstand Warner's 17 kills to three attack errors. The Royals jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the opening set. AMU rallied midway through the set and pulled within four, 20-16, on a Lauren Ruby service ace. The Royals won five of the last seven points to take the set 25-18

The Gyrenes struggled in the second set, recording three kills to 14 attack errors. Warner took a 12-2 lead in the set before winning the final 10 points to win the set 25-5.

The Royals edged the Gyrenes in the third set despite a better attacking set by AMU. The Blue and Green had 11 kills to five errors while Warner hit .075. AMU fell behind early, 8-2, but fought back to pull within three, 23-20. Four straight points by AMU to tie the game at 24-all. Warner won the final two points to take the set 26-24.

Erica Chenard had eight kills to lead AMU on the night. She also had a solo block and two block assists. Ruby had 12 digs to lead the Gyrenes. She also tied Cassie Davis for the team lead in assists with six.

The Gyrenes return to action tomorrow night when they host Webber in the Sun Conference Game of the Week. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
