MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's volleyball team hit the road on Wednesday night to take on the St. Thomas Bobcats. AMU was defeated in three sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-14.

St. Thomas jumped out to an early lead in the opening set and never looked back. In the second set, the Gyrenes strung together five straight points early in the set to take a 8-6 lead. They continued to lead 16-14 before a rally by St. Thomas put AMU behind 21-17. The Bobcats went on to win the final four points and take the set 25-18. In the third set, St. Thomas took a 9-4 lead early in the set en route to a 25-14 win.

Ave Maria .041 for the match while St. Thomas hit at a .262 clip. The Bobcats had 11 service aces on the night compared to one for the Gyrenes.

AMU was led by Erica Chenard with six kills. Lauren Ruby had five kills to go along with eight assists and nine digs. Cassie Davis added 13 assists and Aspen Davidson tied Ruby for team-high in digs with nine.

The Gyrenes return to action on Saturday when they take on Coastal Georgia in Brunswick, Ga.
