COLUMBIA, Ky. --- Hitting the road for the first time this season, the Ave Maria football team fell to fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson College 44-15. AMU is now 1-1 on the season as they prepare to take on Cumberland (Tenn.) next Saturday at Gyrene Field.

Lindsey Wilson got on the board first with a 24-yard touchdown run and a 23-yard field goal in the first quarter. Two quick scores in the second quarter, the first on a 29-yard touchdown run and the second on a 45-yard fumble return, gave LWC a 24-0 advantage.

The Gyrenes first score came with just over a minute to play in the first half on a Sefe Wences one-yard touchdown run. The run capped an 11-play, 79-yard drive that spanned 5:43 and cut the Gyrene deficit to 17 at the half.

After Lindsey Wilson scored the only points of the third quarter, Quino Mauricette found pay-dirt on a one-yard touchdown run for AMU to cap a nine-play, 81-yard drive early in the fourth. Lindsey Wilson found the endzone twice in the fourth quarter to make it a final score of 44-15.

Will Tate was 18-for-22 for 184 yards at quarterback. He also ran for 25 yards on 13 carries. Quino Mauricette led the ground attach with 13 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown. Sefe Wences added a rushing touchdown for AMU. Traylyn Jackson had five receptions for 95 yards to lead AMU receivers.

Defensively, Kobi Bowers had a team-high 14 total tackles. Trentyn Jackson had nine tackles and an interception. John Preyer added to his sack total with two for a loss of 10 yards.
