AMU Tennis vs. Florida National Recap

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria tennis teams played their first home match of the season on Tuesday afternoon against the Florida National Conquistadors. The match was originally scheduled for last week but postponed due to rain.
 
The Gyrene men's tennis team dropped a close 5-4 match to FNU while the women's team was defeated 8-1.
 
On the men's side, doubles play ended up being the difference in the match. At one singles, David Zuleta and Nicholas Hofmeister won 8-2 but Florida National won at both two-doubles and three-doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
 
In singles play on the men's side, Florida National won the first three matches at three-singles, two-singles, and one-singles to reach the deciding five points. AMU had a strong showing in the final three matches with Davin Hanton winning at four-singles 2-6, 6-1, 10-8, Cesar Menacho winning at five-singles 6-2, 4-6, 10-8, and Brandon Valley winning at six-singles 6-4, 6-1.
 
For the Gyrene women's team, Florida National won all three doubles matches by scores of 8-2, 8-0, and 8-0.
 
In singles play, Camila Branstner played one-singles and fell 6-2, 6-0. Florida National won the next four matches. Averie Harkey won at six-singles 6-0, 6-0.
 
AMU returns to action on Feb. 6 when they travel to Florida The for a 12 p.m. start.
