Two Goals From Soto Not Enough vs. No. 14 STU

Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- The Ave Maria University men's soccer team fell 7-2 on Wednesday night to the No. 14 team in the nation, the Bobcats of St. Thomas University. The Bobcats scored the first three goals of the match to pull away from Ave Maria, but the Gyrenes were able to put away two penalty kicks to extend their streak of scoring at least one goal to seven matches.

St. Thomas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening 17 minutes of the match. In the 12th minute, a one-touch pass from Mads Rismoen found the foot of Joaquin Domber, who finished to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Just over five minutes late, Rismoen scored himself on an assist from Santiago Gil, whose free kick was headed in the top corner by Rismoen.

The Bobcats scored first in the second half, as well. Gil connected on his second assist of the match, finding Pedro Moriera to increase St. Thomas' lead to three goals. Moriera finished with his left foot in the 55th minute for his second goal of the season.

Ave Maria got on the board thanks to a penalty kick in the 66th minute. After a red card saw one of St. Thomas' players sent off, Ulises Soto stepped up and buried his attempt from the spot. Soto's penalty kick cut the lead for the Bobcats down to two. Soto also converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute for his second goal of the match, marking AMU's second multi-goal game of the season. 

Four more goals were converted by the Bobcats in the second half. Moriera scored twice more in the final 45 minutes to log a hat trick, while Rismoen added his second goal late in the match. Pablo Gil also scored in the final ten minutes, while assists were provided by Max Franke, Matt Roberts, and Frederico Zanna.

AMU's returns home for the first time in a month on Saturday, when the Night Hawks of Thomas University come to town. Kickoff between the Gyrenes and the Night Hawks, who come into the game with a 2-7 record, is scheduled for noon at Gyrene Field.
