Manning Finishes Second, Vicioso Third In Kansas City

7951PARKVILLE, Mo.- The Ave Maria University golf teams concluded their trip to Kansas City on Tuesday afternoon with the final round of the Virginia McCoy Invitational, hosted by Park University at The National Golf Club of Kansas City. Led by a second-place finish from sophomore Jonah Manning, the men came home with a sixth place finish. The women's team's efforts were led by senior Bianca Vicioso, who brought home third place.
 
Manning finished one shot back of the leader with an 82 on The National course. The sophomore's finish was the best of his AMU career. Manning's round included a birdie on the second hole, as well as a string of eight pars and a birdie over an eleven-hole stretch in the middle of his round. He finished behind Hutchinson Community College's Charlie Crockett, the overall champion.
 
Isaac Nycum was one of just four players to shoot lower than an 80 on a cold and windy day at The National, carding the third-lowest score of the day with a 78. Nycum also birdied the second hole, and made ten consecutive pars from the tenth to the first. AMU's team score on the day, a 340, was rounded out by an 89 from Gabriel DeCasas and a 91 from Roch Aubert. Trevor Graham's 92 completed the efforts for the Gyrenes, who moved up from ninth place after the first round into a tie for sixth. 
 
Vicioso was one of only four golfers in the women's event to play The National in under 90 strokes, carding an 87 in the final round. Vicioso entered the day tied for eighth, but recorded the fourth-lowest score of the afternoon to move up the leaderboard.The senior finished in third place, the second top-three finish of her career. The overall champion was Metropolitan Community College's Rachel Stous, who rolled to a 12-shot victory. 
 
Ave Maria's efforts on the women's side were rounded out by Alaina Irwin's 100 and Lydia Baldwin's 108. Irwin finished in the top half of the field with her two-day score. The team champion in the event was Truman State University, who topped host Park University by 33 shots. The men's team champion was
Hutchinson, who knocked off Morningside College by two strokes. 
 
The Ave women are done for the fall, while the men will finish up in the first weekend of November at the Homewood Suites FGCU Classic. The Gyrenes will not have to leave Southwest Florida for this tournament, which will be played at Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero. The first round at FGCU will be Sunday, November 3, with the final round following the next day.​
