Box Score AVE MARIA, Fla.- The Ave Maria men's soccer team won their second match in a week on Tuesday night with a 6-2 triumph over the University of the Virgin Islands. The meeting was the first ever between the Gyrenes and the Buccaneers, and saw the Gyrenes score five goals in the second half to earn their second win of the 2019 season.

Ave Maria struck first on Tuesday night, as John Gokey scored in the 16th minute on an assist from Hernando Valencia-Parra. Neither team scored in the remaining time in the first half, keeping the score 1-0 heading into halftime.

AMU's second-half surge was led by Kensley Jean-Baptiste, who scored a hat trick with goals in the 65th, 69th, and 72nd minutes. The junior scored the first of the three goals on a penalty kick, and was assisted on third by Raphael Rodriguez.  Nelson Libbert and Ulises Soto added goals in the final two minutes of the match to cap off the victory. 

Both of the goals for the University of the Virgin Islands were scored by Mackean St. Croix, who found the back of the net in the 52nd and 82nd minutes.

The Gyrenes return to Sun Conference play on Saturday afternoon for a meeting with Southeastern University, the number nine ranked team in the nation. Senior Day festivities will be held before the match, which is scheduled to kick off at 1:00 p.m. at Gyrene Field.
