AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria University volleyball team easily took care of business on Tuesday night, dispatching of Trinity College in straight set. Ave Maria moves to 12-12 on the season and sit just one win shy of tying the school record for wins in a season.

Ave Maria came out firing and hit .375 in the opening set. AMU began the match on a 7-1 run with multiple kills by Erica Chenard and Alejandra Suarez and used a seven-point spurt later in the set to build a 20-8 advantage. After Trinity saved three match points, the Gyrenes finished the set on a Chenard kill.

Katie Grose and Charlotte Caro each tallied multiple kills at the start of the second set to help AMU to a 5-0 start. A 7-0 run later in the set put the Gyrenes in front 17-5. Ave Maria led by as many as 14 in the second set and closed out the set 25-11 on a Katie O'Donnell service ace.

Behind Sydney Clark's two service aces, AMU against got off to fast start in the third with a 4-0 run. Caro added an ace a few points later and a Trinity ball handling error put the Gyrenes ahead 7-2. Trinity kept with Ave Maria in the third set before a three-point run by AMU turned a two-point lead into a 21-16 advantage. The Blue and Green won four of the final five points to finish out the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.

Caro and De Leon led the Gyrenes with eight kills apiece. Grose and Haut added seven kills while Talia Samuels finished with six kills. Nine Gyrenes recorded a kill in the win.

Grose finished with a match-high 33 assists. Victoria Schein had 12 digs followed by Suarez with nine and Grose and Miah Pena with seven.

Caro led AMU with four service aces. Pena, Leigha Crumpler, and Clark each had two aces.

Ave Maria hit .242 on the night with 45 kills compared to 11 by Trinity. The Gyrenes held a 13-4 advantage in service aces and a 4-0 lead in blocks.

Ave Maria wraps up their home schedule tomorrow night (Wednesday) when they host conference opponent Johnson & Wales. The matchup will begin at 7 p.m. Prior to the game, AMU will recognize its graduating seniors.
