Volleyball Ends Regular Season With 3-0 Win At Webber

BABSON PARK, Fla. --- The Ave Maria volleyball team concluded the regular season on high-note, defeating the Webber Warriors 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. Ave Maria's season continues on Tuesday night when they travel to Southeastern for a quarterfinal matchup in The Sun Conference Tournament.
 
Ave Maria improved to 14-12 on the season and to 8-8 in TSC play with the win. The 14 wins and eight conference wins are each the most in program history. It is the first time in school history that the Gyrenes finished the regular season with a winning record and a .500 or better record in conference play.  
 
Katie Grose led AMU in both assists (21) and kills (6). Alejandra Suarez added five kills by four Gyrenes tallied four kills. McKenna Tyson had eight digs while Victoria Schein and Katie O'Donnell each finished with six.
 
Erica Chenard led AMU with a solo block and four block assists. Madelyn Haut added a solo block and two block assists.
 
Ave Maria hit .194 in the opening set with nine kills and three errors but were able to take advantage of 12 Webber attack errors to win the opening set 25-19.  The Gyrenes had to battle back in the set after Webber opened the match on a 7-1 run. Trailing 10-5, Ave Maria tallied eight of the next nine points to take a 13-11 lead. The Gyrenes extended their lead to seven, 20-13, after a five-point run thanks to four Warrior attack errors. The Blue and Green wrapped up the set 25-19.
 
AMU continued their first set momentum into the second and led 7-2 early in the set. A .412 hitting percentage in the second set helped the Gyrenes quickly take control of the set. AMU continued to string together three and four point runs to take a 19-6 lead and closed out the set 25-10 to take a 2-0 lead.
 
A back-and-forth third set ended in a 25-23 win for AMU. Webber opened with a 4-1 lead before a 7-0 run later in the set put the Gyrenes in front 13-8. After Webber regained the lead 16-15, the Blue and Green responded with a 3-0 run to go ahead 18-16. Ave Maria wouldn't trail the remainder of the match and closed out the set on a kill by Suarez on AMU's second match point.
 
Ave Maria returns to action on Tuesday night in the TSC Quarterfinals at Southeaster. It is the first time AMU has participated in the TSC Tournament since the 2013 season.
