AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's and women's tennis teams took on Warner this afternoon at the AMU Tennis Complex. Warner defeated the AMU men's team 5-4 while the women's team fell 9-0.

Warner took a 2-1 lead into single play. The Royals won at first doubles 8-4 and at second doubles 8-2. Brandon Valley and Cesar Menacho earned the lone point in double play for the Gyrenes with a 8-6 win in the three doubles match.

In singles play, Warner struck first winning at three-singles and then one-singles to take a 4-2 lead. Nicholas Hofmeister won at two-singles 6-4, 6-1 to give AMU its second point and first singles point. Menacho kept the Gyrenes in it with a 7-6, 6-3 win at five-singles. Warner clinched the match with a win at four-singles. Valley won his match at six-singles 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 to make it 5-4.

On the women's side, Warner led 3-0 after doubles play. The Royals won at one-doubles over Camilla Branstner and Averie Harkey 8-4. In another close match at three-doubles, Lauren McCarthy and Amy Gateau fell 8-5.

In singles play, Warner swept the six matches to take the match 9-0. Harkey had the best result for the Gyrenes in singles play. She fell at the two-singles spot 6-2, 6-3.

Both squads return to action on Wednesday when they take on Keiser at 2 p.m. at the AMU Tennis Complex. Keiser is ranked second on both the men's and women's side in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
