AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria baseball team defeated Lawrence Tech 7-6 and 9-2 on Monday afternoon to improve to 11-14 on the season.

In game one, Lawrence Tech got the first two runs in the top of the third only to see AMU respond with two in the bottom half of the inning. With the bases-loaded, Tully Allen grounded into a fielder's choice but beat out the throw at first to allow Justin Hartshorne to score. Alex Perez then hit a sac fly to center to drive in Luis Rodriguez to tie the game.

In the fourth inning, Hartshorne hit a sac fly to deep left field that allowed Spencer Nelson to score and give AMU a 3-2 advantage. The Blue Devils tied the game in the fifth.

Still tied in the sixth inning, Daniel Caylor drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Chris Wydler and give the Gyrenes a 4-3 lead.

After Lawrence Tech took a 6-4 lead in the top of the seventh, the Gyrenes rallied from two-down to win it in walk-off fashion in the bottom half of the inning 7-6.

AMU got the first two runners of the inning on via an error and then single by Robert McMahon. After an out, Nelson was hit by an errant Blue Devil pitch to load the bases. Anier Ricardo then singled to center to drive in Perez. Pinch-runner Nick Wydler scored on the same play via a LTU error. Next up, Hartshorne hit a walk-off single to center to bring in pinch-runner Justin Davis for the game-winning run.

McMahon recorded a pair of hits for AMU in game one. In total, seven Gyrenes had hits and seven different players scored a run. Hartshorne was the lone player with multiple RBI with two.

Christian Whitlatch picked up the win for AMU after coming in for the final inning. Jared Halteman got the start and pitched four innings. David also pitched for AMU, going two innings of no-run, one-hit ball.

In game two, Mark Rooney broke a 0-0 tie in the second inning with an RBI single to right, driving in Andy Hernandez.

Trailing 2-1 in the fourth, AMU put seven on the board in the bottom half of the inning to take a 8-1 lead. The Gyrenes got a two-RBI single by Rodriguez, a RBI single by Allen, and a RBI double by Perez for the first six runs of the inning. Ricardo then drove in Hernandez with a sac fly to left.

Allen extended the advantage to seven in the fifth with a RBI single to left field to bring in Hartshorne.

Allen was 4-for-4 in game two with two RBI and a run scored. Hernandez, Ricardo, and Rooney each had two hits for the Gyrenes. Perez had one hit and three RBI. Rodriguez also had two RBI for AMU.

Ben Krizen got the start for AMU and allowed one earned run on five hits and three walks over 3.2 innings. Kyle Conway got the win, pitching 2.1 innings in relief. He allowed one hit and struck out three. Devin Mattingly pitched the final inning for the Gyrenes and walked one and struck out one.

Ave Maria returns to action on Friday when they resume conference play against 17th-ranked Keiser in West Palm Beach. Friday's single game is set to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will start at 12 p.m.
