AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's lacrosse team fell to Lawrence Tech 18-5 in a battle of two teams who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll. AMU drops to 2-4 on the season. The Blue and Green return to action on Monday when they take on Nichols College.

Lawrence Tech took the early lead with a goal 2:29 into the first half. Katelyn Sherman tied the game less than a minute later on an unassisted goal, her 18th of the season.

The Blue Devils then went on an 11-0 run to end the half and started the second half with two straight. AMU broke the 14-goal run by Lawrence Tech with a goal by Calena Carabelli at the 22:49 mark. AMU scored their second straight goal when Stephanie HIlker found the back of the net to make it 15-3.

After Lawrence Tech took a 17-3 lead, AMU scored two of the final three goals to make the final 18-5. Amanda Spurlin and Aiyanah Simms each scored for the Gyrenes.

Lawrence Tech outshot AMU 32-15 and held a 27-14 edge in ground balls. The Blue Devils also won the draw control battle, winning 15 compared to 10 by the Gyrenes.

Five different Gyrenes scored on the afternoon. Carabelli led AMU in shots with four on target. Sherman led AMU with four draw controls and three ground balls. Lauren Ruby had two of AMU's seven caused turnovers.

Nieve Macedo made her debut in net for AMU. She made five saves in the loss.
