AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria baseball team scored early and often in a 15-5 win over Doane on Saturday afternoon. The Gyrenes run-ruled the Tigers in the seventh inning behind a walk-off home run by Spencer Nelson.

Doane opened the scoring in the top of the first with a run on a RBI single to center. In the bottom half of the inning, AMU got a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead. The first run came via an error by Doane that plated Tully Allen and the second on a RBI single by Jack Zander.

The Tigers went back in front in the second inning with four runs including a two-run home run.

AMU got one run back in the third inning on a RBI double to right center by Anier Ricardo to drive in Robert McMahon. The Gyrenes took the lead in the fourth with four runs. The Blue and Green got RBIs by Daniel Caylor, Alex Perez, and Ricardo.

Caylor the singled in the fifth to drive in Luis Rodriguez to extend the AMU advantage to three.

The Gyrenes broke the game up in the seventh. Caylor reached on an error that scored Justin Hartshorne. He later came around to score on a Perez sacrifice fly. Tully Allen drove in Rodriguez with a single to right. McMahon then singled through the left side to bring in Allen and move the score to 12-5.

With two runners on-base, Spencer Nelson hit a pinch hit home run to walk-off the game in the seventh via the 10-run rule, 15-5.

Hartshorne had a team-best three hits on the afternoon and scored two runs. Nelson and Ricardo finished with three RBI apiece. Five Gyrenes had two or more hits.

Kavin Kroll got the win for AMU. He pitched 3.1 innings of no-run ball in relief of starter Chase Barrett. Kroll struck out three and allowed three hits. Kyle Conway and Jake Davey combined to pitch 1.2 innings in relief.

Ave Maria returns to action on Sunday when they host Purdue Northwest at 2 p.m.
