AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria baseball team wrapped up their 2019 season with a doubleheader split against Florida National on Wednesday afternoon. AMU won game one 9-5 before dropping game two of the twin bill 7-2.

Ave Maria finishes the season with a 19-32 overall record an a 7-17 mark in Sun Conference play.

The Gyrenes fell behind early in game one with Florida National taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Gyrenes then scored seven unanswered to take a 7-2 lead in the fifth inning.

Chris Wydler opened the third innings with a solo shot to left field to cut the AMU deficit to 2-1. Later in the inning, Luis Rodriguez doubled to center to drive in Spencer Nelson to tie the game. After back-to-back Gyrenes reached base to load the bases, Robert McMahon singled in Rodriguez and Jared Halteman.

In the fourth, Andrew Lesniewski hit his first home run of the season to make it 5-1 AMU. The Blue and Green continued to pile on the runs in the fifth inning with an RBI double to left by Nick Wydler and a RBI single by Lesniewski.

The Conquistadors added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth only to see AMU answer with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Halteman scored on a passed ball before Chris Wydler singled up the middle to drive in Alex Perez.

Noah Christopher picked up the win for the Gyrenes, going 5.2 innings. He allowed three earned runs on eight hits and no walks. He struck out two. Devin Mattingly earned the four-out save, allowing one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Five Gyrenes had multiple hits led by McMahon's 3-for-4 afternoon. McMahon, Chris Wydler, and Lesniewski each had two RBI.

In game two, the Conquistadors again jumped out to the early advantage scoring four in the first and adding a run in the second to take a 5-0 lead.

Rodriguez's two-RBI single in the top of the fifth gave AMU their first runs of the game. The hit drove in Anier Ricardo and Mark Rooney.

FNU added a run in the sixth and seventh as the Gyrenes wouldn't get any closer, falling 7-2.

Ben Krizen got the start and took the loss for the Gyrenes. Kavin Kroll pitched 4.2 innings in relief for AMU. Kross allowed two runs on nine hits and two walks. He struck out seven in his nearly five innings of work. Justin David and Jack Zander also pitched in relief for AMU.

Rooney was the only Gyrene with two hits in game two. Rodriguez went 1-for-3 driving in both of AMU's runs.
