BRUNSWICK, Ga. --- The Ave Maria volleyball team concluded a three-game week with a 3-0 loss against Coastal Georgia on Saturday afternoon. AMU had won both games earlier this week, a 3-1 win over Florida College and a 3-2 win at Southeastern.

All three sets came down to the final few points. Coastal won the opening set 25-20, the second set 25-22 and the third set 25-23.

Trailing by two, 20-18, in the opening set, Ave Maria scored on a kill by Madelyn Haut and then took advantage of an attack error by Coastal Georgia to tie the match at 20. The Mariners scored the final five points of the set to close it out 25-20.

In the second set, AMU was trailing 24-19 late in the match before three straight points brought AMU within two. Coastal Georgia finished off the set on a kill by Sam Kepler to take the set 25-22.

Like the previous two sets, the third was close to the final points. Trailing by three, AMU scored back-to-back points on a Haut kill and CCGA attack error to pull within one, 19-18. Coastal won three of the next four points to take a 22-19 lead. Trailing 23-20, the Gyrenes won three of the next four on a service error by CCGA and kills by Alejandra Suarez and Katie O'Donnell to close the gap to one. Coastal won the final point to take the set 25-23.

Haut led the Gyrenes with 12 kills to just one attack error. O'Donnell added eight kills while Suarez finished with six kills. Victoria Schein tallied a team-best 22 digs. Katie Grose had 30 assists to lead AMU. O'Donnel and Miah Pena each reach double-figure digs with 10 apiece.

Ave Maria doesn't leave campus this upcoming week with home games against Florida National on Tuesday, St. Thomas on Wednesday and Warner on Saturday.
