Gyrene Lacrosse Slips up at No. 1 Keiser, 19-8

Senior Alexa Keeler and junior Emma Davis each post three goals

WEST PLAM BEACH, Fla.  – The Ave Maria University lacrosse team dropped a 19-8 decision at No. 1 Keiser University in its regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon.

The Gyrenes will now await their opening round opponent and seeding for the Mid-South Tournament, which is scheduled for April 22-24 in Williamsburg, Ky.

Senior Alexa Keeler and junior Emma Davis paced the Gyrenes in defeat with three goals each.  Senior Aiyanah Simms notched a pair of scores to round out the multiple goal scores for Ave.

Keiser scored five goals in the opening 6:44, including two each from Haley Knudsen and Madalyn Huber.  Simms broke through for AMU at the 22:00 mark with her first of two goals in the contest to make the score 5-1.

Keeler scored two goals in a span of just over 10 minutes that preceded Davis' first tally to get AMU within 8-4 with 7:39 left until the break.  Unfortunately, that was as close as the Gyrenes would get the remainder of the contest as Keiser ripped off 10 consecutive goals in the final 6:53 of the first and the initial 12:28 of the second to open a commanding 18-4 advantage.

AMU would score four of the final five goals – including two by Davis – to account for the final margin.

Gyrene goalkeeper Kaylee Wesolowski made 17 saves while playing the entire 60 minutes.

For the game, Keiser outshot AMU 45-15 edged the Gyrenes in draw controls 16-13.

The Gyrenes finish the regular season 2-5 overall and 2-4 in Mid-South action.  Keiser improves to a perfect 10-0, including a 6-0 mark in league action.
