BABSON PARK, Fla.  – The Ave Maria University men's soccer team closed out the 2020-21 campaign with a 2-1 loss at Webber International University on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Gyrenes fell behind by a 2-0 margin in the first half following a pair of goals by the Wildcats in the opening 30:46. 
 
David Negrin Ruiz chipped home a pass from Rodri Flores Iraheta 6:06 into the contest to make the score 1-0 before Jay Skelcher-Maxwell headed in a cross from teammate Daniel Gamaonov to put Webber ahead 2-0 just over 30 minutes in.
 
Junior Greg Lawrence snapped the shutout for the Gyrenes with a goal at 75:43, which saw him take the ball away from Webber goalie Alex Marciulonis and record his first tally of the season.
 
Freshman Rhys Lawlor made seven saves in net for the Gyrenes – who were outshot for the match by Webber 17-9.  The Wildcats also registered 12 corner kick attempts, while limiting AMU to two.
 
AMU closes out the season 3-13-2 overall – including a 2-8-1 mark in Sun Conference play.  Webber sits at 8-9 overall.
