No. 23 Gyrene Men’s Tennis Rolls to 6-1 Win at SCAD

AMU wins four of six singles matches in straight sets

SAVANNAH, Ga.  – The No. 23 Ave Maria University men's tennis team posted a convincing 6-1 road victory at the Savannah College of Art and Design on Thursday afternoon.
 
The Gyrenes, who improve to 8-5 overall with the win, have now posted victories in four consecutive matches and seven of the last eight overall.
 
AMU will now move on to postseason action where it will face No. 2 Keiser in the Sun Conference semifinals on Thursday, April 29.
 
The Gyrenes opened Thursday's clash by claiming the doubles point with wins in both the No. 1 and No. 3 flights.  Guilherme Bento and Carlos Thireau posted a 6-2 win over Sebastian Nunez and Eloy Veloso at No. 1 and Alejandro Viedma and Felipe Amorim recorded a 6-1 triumph at No. 3.
 
AMU went on to completely dominate the singles action as it won four of the six matches in straight sets and one by forfeit.  The only blemish came in a hard-fought battle in the No. 2 slot, which saw Luca Cirenza drop a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 decision to NIcola Buffo.
 
Guilherme Bento posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Davis Clem in the No. 1 match and Carlos Thireau cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3. 

No. 4 Alejandro Viedma defeated Eloy Veloso (6-1, 7-5) and No. 5 Felipe Amorim handed Chase Wray a 6-0, 6-0 blanking to close out the straight-set winners for AMU.
