Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 7 Keiser Overwhelms AMU

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Ave Maria University men's soccer team did not have an answer for the No. 7 team in the nation on Saturday, as the Keiser University Seahawks rolled past the Gyrenes, 7-0, in West Palm Beach. The conference powerhouse Seahawks took the lead in the 12th minute and never looked back, as Ave Maria fell to 4-5-0 on the season, as well as 0-3-0 in Sun Conference play.

Keiser's opening goal in the 12th minute was provided by Rui Reis, who finished on an assist from Nick Akoto. The Seahawks would add another goal before halftime, as Charlie Hennen scored his first goal of the season in the 36th minute. Hennen's unassisted goal would prove to be the last of the first half, giving Keiser a 2-0 lead entering the halftime break.

The Seahawks took further control of the game in the second half, scoring five times in less than 25 minutes. Alexander Steen led the charge in the final 45 minutes, scoring each of Keiser's final three goals to record a hat trick. Lucas Jacobs was responsible for Keiser's first two goals of the second half, moving his total to four on the season with tallies in the 52nd and 57th minutes. Assists were provided by Hennen, Belmin Ramdedovic, and Gabi Villafane.

Ave Maria managed just three shots on Saturday, two of which challenged the KU goalkeeper. Diego Heredia and Cade Williams were responsible for Ave Maria's shots on goal, while Thomas Hoeing attempted an off-target shot. Keiser outshot the Gyrenes by a 23-3 margin, including 13-2 in shots on goal. The Gyrenes did play the final ten minutes up a man, as Keiser's Ian Hernandez was shown a red card in the 80th minute.

The Gyrenes will look to get back on track this coming week, with two Sun Conference matches on the schedule. The week starts Wednesday afternoon, when Ave Maria heads to Babson Park for a meeting with unbeaten Webber at 1:00 p.m. The Gyrenes then return home to take on Warner University Saturday night at Gyrene Field.
