HARDEVILLE, S.C. — The Ave Maria Women's Soccer team was kept off the board against the Savannah College of Art and Design, falling to the Bees 3-0.
SCAD scored their first goal in the 27
th minute. SCAD had two shots on goal that were saved by Emma Schweitzer before connecting on their third.
On the other end of the pitch, the Gyrenes got some good looks and a few chances, but could not connect. Ave Maria actually had more shots on goal than the Bees in the first half, but they were all saved the keeper.
In the second half, the Bees took control of the game offensively and registered nine shots on goal to the Gyrenes' one. SCAD connected on two of their shots to up their lead to 3-0.
The Bees ended the game with 12 shots on goal to Ave Maria's five. In total, SCAD outshot the Gyrenes 27-8, which is just the third time that has happened this season.
Schweitzer ended the game with nine saves, which is a season high for her this season. Her seven-save performance in the second half alone was more than the other 11 games she has played this season.
Rachel Dalton led the team with three shots, one of which was on goal. Liz Wolf came off the bench and led the team with two shots on goal.
With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 5-3-4 and 2-2-3 in conference play.
Ave Maria gets a Saturday off before returning to the pitch for their final home game of the regular season Wednesday, October 30. The Gyrenes will take on the St. Thomas Bobcats in a non-conference match. The two teams already met earlier this season for their conference match and played to a 1-1 draw. The game is part of a tripleheader on campus, with Men's Soccer and Volleyball also in action the day before Halloween. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the Sun Digital Network.
