Ultimate Wins Notre Dame Exhibition

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Ave Maria Ultimate frisbee team secured a noteworthy victory against Notre Dame in an intense showdown at Notre Dame's indoor Loftus Sports Center. The Gyrenes came out swinging, causing a turnover on the first point and converting it into an early score, setting the tone for the match.

The indoor setting took away the unpredictable weather conditions that typically challenge Ultimate frisbee players. While this made offensive strategies more effective, it significantly heightened the difficulty for the defense. Ave Maria managed to adapt, navigating the changes in gameplay.

The first half saw a back-and-forth battle, with both teams displaying impressive skills. Ave Maria headed into halftime with a slim lead of 8-7.

As the second half kicked off, Ave Maria continued their strong performance, maintaining control and never looking back. The team's conditioning was on full display, causing multiple turnovers and executing impressive offensive plays throughout the entire second half.

Ave Maria ended the game with a well-deserved 15-10 victory. The offensive leaders were Matthew Lesniewski, with an impressive six scores, and Liam O'Rourke, contributing seven assists.

The defensive efforts were equally commendable, with Garrett Hallinan and Isaac Landrum making crucial plays to secure and maintain Ave Maria's lead. "This was an incredible blessing and opportunity that God gave to us. Notre Dame is an incredible team, and we are so grateful that they hosted us for this game. We have a long season ahead of us and will be focused on the Tally Classic next. AMDG," said Coach Middendorf.

Looking ahead, Ave Maria's men's team is set to compete at the Tally Classic hosted by Florida State. With the confidence gained from their victory against Notre Dame, Ave Maria aims to replicate their success and continue their impressive run in the upcoming tournament.
