AVE MARIA, Fla. — The Ave Maria University Women's Soccer team is excited to announce their newcomers for the class of 2024. Ten new freshman from eight different states will join the Gyrenes in year eight under head coach Tyler Rosser.
The new Gyrenes are listed below in alphabetical order:
Ava Conforti is from Smithtown, New York. She played club soccer for the Long Island Slammers and attended Smithtown High School East. She plays left and right wing. About attending Ave Maria, Ava says, "On my first visit to AMU I was mesmerized by the beauty and charm of the campus. As I toured around Ave, I realized that this was the place for me! Choosing Ave means that I will be able to continue my soccer career at the collegiate level with faith filled people to support me on my faith journey".
Daria Charron is from Carnegie, Pennsylvania. She played club soccer for Pittsburgh Elite Soccer Club and attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School. She plays Right Forward. She has received the Highest Honor Roll throughout her 4 years and was a member of the National Honors Society. She has also won All WPIAL and All Section awards along with being a team captain. She is most excited about attending Ave Maria because of the faith centered environment and continuing to play soccer.
Julia Hyland is from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She attended Sacred Heart Academy. She plays as a winger. She chose to play for Ave Maria because of the culture that the coaching staff, coach Rosser in particular, and the women on the team are trying to build and maintain. This is something that she wants to be a part of and help cultivate.
Kana Mateaki is from Anchorage, Alaska. She played club soccer for Alaska Rush and attended Dimond High School. She plays forward. She has won CCC all academic 2x, Academic All District, and was a Daktronics Scholar Athlete. She has also won second team all CCC honors and was the Gatorade Player of the Year for Alaska in 2020. She is most excited about attending Ave Maria to pursue her MBA while continuing to play out her fifth year of eligibility playing soccer.
Breanna McBride is from Peachtree City, Georgia. She played club for AFC Lightning and attended St. Mary's Academy. Breanna plays defense as a center back. She chose Ave Maria for the great community and is excited to grow closer to God while playing soccer.
Isabelle Olon is from St Mary's County, Maryland. She was homeschooled for the last four years of high school. Isabelle will be serving as a student manager on the team. She chose to be part of the Ave Maria women's soccer team because of the tight-knit community. Isabelle explained, "The coaches not only help you to strive to be your best self within the team, but also spiritually. The team and coaches have also shown a true and authentic commitment towards a Christ centered team. I am extremely excited to start this coming fall and grow in my spiritual journey!"
Isabella Silverio is from Myakka City, Florida. She played club for West Florida Flames and attended Parrish Community High School. Isabelle plays center back and outside back. She chose Ave Maria for the environment, which she believes will help her grow academically, athletically, and spiritually.
Kaitlin Vinson is from Lutz, Florida. She played club for FC Tampa Rangers and attended Hillsborough High School. She plays midfield. About attending Ave Maria, Kaitlin says, "I chose Ave because I knew I would be surrounded by a community of young women striving for sainthood. I am excited to grow closer to God while becoming the best soccer player and student I can be."
Marissa Weber is from Tampa, Florida. She attended East Lake High School. She plays offense (wing/ center-mid/ striker). Marissa is most excited about creating friends and teammates that will draw her closer to Christ, all while developing her academic life guided by biblical and theological teachings.
Claire Wrobleski is from Plains, Montana. She played club for both Missoula Strikers and Clark Fork Alliance. Claire was homeschooled through Mother of Divine Grace School. She plays as an attacking midfielder. About attending Ave Maria, Claire says, "I chose Ave Maria because it's a Catholic soccer team, a Newman guide school, and a beautiful campus full of alligators. What's not to love?"
Ave Maria is on the road to start their 2024 season, traveling east to West Palm Beach to take on the Keiser Seahawks in a non-conference match August 22. The Gyrenes are home for an exhibition against the Polk State Eagles August 24. The official home opener for Ave Maria is September 14 against the Southeastern Fire.
