AVE MARIA, Fla. — The Ave Maria University women's soccer team fell 6–0 to SCAD Savannah on Wednesday evening in Sun Conference play at Gyrene Field.
SCAD opened the scoring in the 19th minute on a goal from Haidyn Jenkins and added a second just before halftime when Mina Haggstrom found the net off a pass from Emily Lau through the Gyrene defense. The Bees extended their lead in the second half with goals from Mia Gomez and another from Jenkins, followed by a pair from Irma Olesen in the final 20 minutes.
Sophomore goalie Emma Schweitzer played all 90 minutes, recording 10 saves while facing 16 shots on goal. The Gyrenes registered two shots in the match, both on target, coming from a header opportunity by Claire Wrobleski and a chance for Marissa Weber off a ball that bounced out of the. SCAD held a 23–2 advantage in total shots and a 7–1 edge in corner kicks.
With the result, Ave Maria moves to 4–8–3 overall and 0–4–2 in conference play.
The next test for the Gyrenes will be Saturday, October 18, in Miami Gardens where they take on the Florida Memorial Lions and look to add more points to the board in conference play. The Gyrenes are four points behind Florida Memorial in the standings making Saturday a very important game in deciding the final spot for the Sun Conference tournament. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the Urban Edge Network.
