Men’s Tennis Drops First Game in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Ave Maria Men's Tennis team played their first of four neutral site matches in Orlando Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Wayne State Warriors 5-1. Weather played a factor in the match, causing the two teams to forgo the doubles round of the match and go straight into the singles round.

Wayne State won five of the six pairing in the singles round to win the match.

Juan Garcia won the lone pairing for the Gyrenes, winning 6-1, 6-7 (5), and 10-8 in a final tiebreaker. For Garcia, he is now 3-1 in singles matches this season and is on a two-match win streak.
The loss drops Ave Maria to 2-3 on the season.

Wednesday was the first of four straight matches in O-Town for the Gyrenes against teams from the Midwest. Ave Maria is back in action Friday, March 7, against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. It will be the first ever match between the Gyrenes and the NCAA Division II Yellow Jackets.
