GULF SHORES, Ala.- The Ave Maria University beach volleyball team saw their 2025 season come to an end Saturday morning, as the Gyrenes fell in the second consolation round to third-seeded Loyola University. Ave Maria dropped a 3-0 decision to the Wolf Pack, who moved on to the semifinals with the win. It marked the third consecutive tournament meeting between the Gyrenes and the Wolf Pack, with Ave Maria winning 3-2 in both 2023 and 2024.
The Gyrenes' defeat was closer than the 3-0 score would indicate, as four of the eight sets won by Loyola players were done by the minimum two points. The Wolf Pack claimed wins at the second, fourth, and fifth flights. The match at the fifth flight was especially close, as the pairing of Abbey Grose and DeAnna Barrett suffered a pair of 21-19 losses.
The lone set victory of the day came from the top duo of Ines Lopes and Adriana Bravo, who rallied from a 21-16 loss in the first set to claim a 21-17 win in the second. The top flight match was early in the third set when the match was clinched for Loyola. The other unfinished match saw AMU's third flight duo of Beatriz Rissi and Kate Lyons tied at 12 in the second set when the match was called.
Second-seeded Webber International University claimed the tournament championship for the fourth consecutive season. The Warriors defeated the University of Mobile in the championship round, and punched their ticket to the fourth annual NAIA Women's Beach Volleyball National Invitational in Greenville, Tennessee, scheduled for April 24-26.
Ave Maria concludes the season with a 9-11 overall record, including a 7-5 mark in conference play. Four Gyrenes - Ines Lopes, Adriana Bravo, Greta Heiney and Elle Malczewski were named All-Conference players, a first for all four Gyrenes.
