Women’s Soccer Drops First Game in Georgia

THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The Ave Maria Women's Soccer team played the first of two games in Georgia Saturday afternoon and fell to the Mobile Rams 3-0. The Gyrenes outshot the Rams in the first half, but an onslaught of shots from Mobile in the second half kept the Gyrenes from making a comeback.

Ave Maria took six shots in the first half, with four of them on goal. Avianna Ferraez took two of them while Cadey Ragsdale and Cydnee Butler took the other two.

Mobile scored their first goal in the 29th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Mobile took control of the game and outshot Ave Maria 12-5. Four of those 12 shots were directed at the net and two went in. The two goals were just 11 minutes apart as the Rams extended their lead.

Of Ave Maria's five shots, two were on goal, but both were saved just like in the first half. Kaitlyn Vinson took the first shot on goal while Butler got her second of the game to tie Ferraez for the most on the team.

With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 1-2 on the year.

The Gyrenes will stay in the Peach State through the long holiday weekend and will take on the Thomas Night Hawks Monday in their next game. The Night Hawks are hosting the weekend tournament with two teams from the Sun Conference meeting two teams from the Southern States Athletic Conference. Prior to the Gyrenes' game on Saturday, the Night Hawks beat the New College of Florida Mighty Banyans 3-1. New College and Mobile will play before Ave Maria Thomas on Monday.

Kickoff between the Gyrenes and Night Hawks is set for 1:30 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the Urban Edge Network.
