LAKE WALES, Fla. — The Ave Maria Women's Soccer team fell to the Warner Royals Saturday evening, losing 2-0. The Gyrenes generated plenty of chances throughout the match but could not get one pass the Warner keeper.
In the first half, Ave Maria logged six shots, with two of them on goal. Claire Wrobleski and Daria Charron registered the shots on goal, but both were saved by the Warner keeper.
With just 21 seconds left on the clock in the first half, Warner found the back of the net with their fifth shot on goal. The Royals took their 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Royals did not need as much time in the second half to notch their second goal, lighting up the scoreboard in the 54
th minute.
Ave Maria turned up the pressure in the second half, outshooting the Royals 13-11 and having a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. Five different Gyrenes combined for the five shots on goal in the frame.
However, the net stayed clean for the Royals as Ave Maria could get one shot past the keeper before the final whistle blew.
Despite the two goals allowed, goalkeeper Emma Schweitzer made five stops in the match, giving her 35 total saves this season.
With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 3-5-3 overall and 0-3-1 in Sun Conference play.
The Gyrenes are back on the road for their next match as they cross state lines and travel up to Hardeeville, South Carolina, to take on the SCAD Bees. SCAD was off both on Wednesday, October 7, and Saturday, October 10, meaning the Bees will be on 11 days rest heading into the match with the Gyrenes. The Bees are 6-2-2 overall and 1-0-1 in Sun Conference play. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the match will be streamed live on the Sun Digital Network.
