Men’s Tennis Falls to SCAD

AVE MARIA, Fla. — The Ave Maria Men's Tennis team snatched a point away from the 19th ranked SCAD Bees Saturday morning but ultimately fell 4-1. Andreu Soliva scored the point for the Gyrenes winning the fourth pairing in the singles round.

In the doubles round, Ave Maria took one of the three sets with Joao Felipe Almeida and Pedro Garcia taking the first set 6-1. It is their second doubles win of the season. SCAD took the other two sets 6-1 and 6-2 to win the opening doubles point.

In the singles round, Soliva won his fourth singles match of the season, taking the fourth pairing in two sets. Soliva dominated in the first frame, winning 6-0. The second set got a little bit trickier, but Soliva won 7-5 to score Ave Maria's lone point of the match.

SCAD took the first, fifth and sixth pairings to clinch the match 4-1. In the two pairing that didn't finish, Pedro Garcia won his first set 7-6 and was in the middle of the second set and Gianmarco Punzo was tied at four in the second set when the match was called.

With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Gyrenes are back out on the court Friday, March 27, as they take on the No. 4 Southeastern Fire in Lakeland.
