AVE MARIA, Fla. — The Ave Maria Women's Tennis team fell 4-0 to the SCAD Bees Saturday afternoon.

The doubles round was tightly contested as the two Gyrene pairs put up a fight. Ave Maria had to forfeit the third doubles pairing, meaning SCAD only needed one set to clinch the opening point. Ave Maria made the Bees work for that point as SCAD won the second pairing 6-5. In the top pairing, the Gyrenes were only trailing 4-3 when the round was called.

In the singles round, Ave Maria had to forfeit the bottom two pairings putting SCAD up 3-0. The Bees clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the top pairing.

Melena Mourad was the lone Gyrenes to win a set in the singles round, taking the opening frame 6-4. She was knotted up at two games apiece in the second set when the match was called.

With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Gyrenes are back out on the court Friday, March 27, as they take on the No. 4 Southeastern Fire in Lakeland.
